Flowers and Lights:
This flower policy is not intended to restrict the rights of people wanting to decorate their lots. It is intended to contribute to the overall beauty of the Cemetery and to allow for the proper maintenance of the lots.
- In ground planting of natural flowers is permitted in approved flower beds, in front of, against or directly behind flush stone grave markers.
- Flower beds should be large enough to contain flowers while providing for ease of mowing and trimming of the lot(s).
- Flower pots must be large enough and heavy enough to prevent plants from becoming top heavy and being blown over. Plastic pots are not heavy enough. These will be permitted at burial but once down and or dead they will be removed.
- Pots may not be buried in the ground.
- Artificial flowers are permitted if placed in a vase, basket, or other approved container which is secured properly to prevent blowing over. Jars, cans, plastic cups, aluminum foil, etc. are not approved containers.
- Artificial flowers may not be put directly in the ground.
- All solar lights must be white. Other colors may be approved by the Superintendent, Carl Walton 207/641-3228. Lights must be located within the planting beds at the headstone.
Trees and Shrubs:
- The Superintendent must approve the planting of all trees and shrubs prior to planting except as part of the general landscaping. Unapproved plantings may be removed or replanted.
- Trees and shrubs planted in the Cemetery become the property of the Cemetery
- Dead or dying plantings will be removed.
- Plantings will be trimmed or removed when they become too difficult or too expensive to maintain.
Flags:
- Representatives of Lodges, Posts, or those they assign the task may place all Flags upon Veterans lots or graves one week prior to Memorial Day.
- Flags will be removed by the organization that placed them or those they assign this task at their discretion.
- Smaller flags may be included in approved flower container (see flowers and lights above)
Dogs:
- Dogs are not permitted in the cemetery, unless confined to vehicles.
Vehicles:
- Snowmobiles, ATVs and similar vehicles are not permitted in the Cemetery, (Title 12, part 13, p 937 and sub part 6, p 939)
Cemetery hours:
- The Cemetery open hours are dawn to dusk. Gates will be closed at approximate dusk and opened at approximate dawn.
- Posting requirements are met with the opening and closing of the gates and the sign posted on the brick house and the main gate. (Title 17-A Maine Criminal Code, chapter 383, p 402)
- The Superintendent may provide exception to this policy.
Monuments:
- Monuments are the responsibility of the Deeded Grave Owners. This includes the purchase, repair, maintenance, and preservation.
- Monuments may only be placed on lots of two (2) or more full burial lots. A double full lot measures 7 ft X 10 ft. Only one monument per double lot.
- Monument may not be taller than 4 feet and not wider than half (1/2) the lot size.
- All monuments, their foundation and location must be approved by the Superintendent prior to their installation.
- Monuments must have a foundation (cement pad)
- Benches are considered Monuments and must have a foundation.
- Hickey markers are considered monuments
- Individual Grave Markers must be flush with the ground.
- Monuments not approved for placement by the Superintendent may be removed.
